| Reverse description | Central field features a plain Latin cross with equal arms, boldly rendered within a beaded inner circle. The cross arms extend nearly to the inner border, a design characteristic of Carolingian ecclesiastical mint issues. Between the inner beaded circle and the outer beaded border runs the circular Latin legend SENONES CIVITAS, identifying the mint city of Sens. The overall composition is typical of the standardised Edict of Pîtres (864) coinage reform types. The flan is irregular and slightly uneven, consistent with hand-hammered production. |
