| Obverse description | Central field occupied by the Carolingian royal monogram of Charles II (Karolus monogram), composed of interlaced letters within a beaded inner circle. The monogram is rendered in the characteristic Carolingian style, with bold raised strokes typical of ninth-century hammered coinage. A circular Latin legend surrounds the beaded border, reading clockwise from a cross pattée. The flan is irregular in outline, consistent with hand-cut hammered silver production of the period. |
