| Reverse description | The reverse bears a two-line mint inscription filling the field, the word META on the upper line and LLVM on the lower line, the two separated by a central pellet, all contained within a plain linear border and a beaded outer circle. The large, square Carolingian capital letters are boldly rendered and deeply cut, typical of the Melle mint output under Charles II. The design is entirely epigraphic, referencing the mint of Melle (Metallum), an important silver-producing center in Poitou. |
