| Obverse description | Central field occupied by the Carolingian royal monogram of Charles (KRLS), composed of interlaced letters rendered in bold relief with a lozenge-shaped central element and four projecting arms terminating in wedge-shaped serifs. Four small lozenge-shaped ornaments fill the angles between the arms of the monogram. The entire device is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, itself surrounded by a plain outer border following the irregular flan edge. |
