Obverse description Central cross with a V-shaped device in the first and fourth angles and a pellet in the second and third angles, all within a circle. The surrounding legend reads BERNΛRDV CO, identifying the issuer as Bernard, Count, rendered in somewhat irregular Latin characters consistent with medieval hammered coinage of the period. The flan is irregular and slightly convex, typical of small feudal billon issues of early 12th-century southern France.
