Obverse description Central field features a plain cross enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding legend, rendered in Gothic characters, reads ARChI EPI (Archiepiscopus), abbreviated to denote the issuing archiepiscopal authority. A small annulet or pellet serves as a word divider within the inscription. The flan is notably irregular in shape, characteristic of hammered billon coinage of the period. The overall die work is bold though somewhat crude, consistent with provincial ecclesiastical mint production of the mid-thirteenth century.
