Obverse description Central design featuring a stylized ducal monogram or cross motif enclosed within a beaded inner circle, surrounded by a roughly executed Latin legend in the outer field. The type is characteristic of anonymous feudal coinage of Aquitaine, struck in the hammered technique resulting in an irregular, slightly off-centre flan. The relief is low and the lettering bold but crudely formed, consistent with provincial workshop production of the early twelfth century.
