The deity raises a trident aloft in his left hand, poised to cast it, while his right arm is extended forward. The figure is rendered in the archaic Greek style, with bold, confident incuse lines characteristic of early South Italian coinage. The abbreviated ethnic inscription ΟΠ (for Ὀποῦς or more likely an abbreviated form of the city name Poseidonia) appears in the field. |
