Koroneia sat at the western edge of the Boeotian plain and remained fiercely loyal to the Boeotian League through most of its turbulent history — including the period immediately following Sparta's dissolution of the League after the King's Peace of 387 BC. That political disruption briefly forced member cities to strike independently, which may account for the proliferation of small fractional silver from Boeotian mints during precisely this window.
BCD Boiotia 173 places this obol within a tightly argued sequence assembled from the collection of the late Belgian scholar known only as "BCD," whose Boeotian holdings remain the benchmark reference for the series.
