| Reverse description | Facing gorgoneion (Gorgon mask) depicted full face, dominating the entire field in bold high relief. The grotesque visage features a flattened nose, wide-set eyes with prominent brow ridges, and a gaping mouth with protruding tongue flanked by serpentine appendages. A thick, striated beard spreads outward at the lower jaw, and coiled serpents emerge from either side of the head. A stepped or battlemented polos headdress surmounts the top of the composition, a distinctive Cilician regional iconographic feature. The field is otherwise plain, with the design filling the flan to its irregular edges. |
