Obverse description Diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Valentinianus II facing right, rendered in the late Roman imperial style typical of the Theodosian period. The effigy displays a pearl diadem and military paludamentum fastened at the shoulder. The encircling Latin legend reads D N VALENTINIANVS P F AVG, identifying the emperor as Dominus Noster Valentinianus Pius Felix Augustus. The flan is small and irregular, with the portrait considerably worn and partially obscured by heavy patination, as is characteristic of base-metal nummi of this period. A dotted border encloses the design.
