Obverse description Right-facing bust of Emperor Valentinian I, pearl-diademed, draped and cuirassed, rendered in the late Roman imperial portrait style. The emperor's effigy displays finely striated hair secured by a visible pearl diadem, with the paludamentum fastened at the right shoulder over scale or ring armour. The facial features are boldly modelled with a strong jaw and prominent brow. The encircling Latin legend reads D N VALENTINI-ANVS P F AVG, abbreviated for Dominus Noster Valentinianus Pius Felix Augustus.
