| Obverse description | Right-facing bust of Emperor Valens, rendered in the typical late Roman imperial style, wearing a pearl diadem, draped paludamentum over the shoulder, and a cuirass with finely engraved scale or pteryges detail visible at the lower truncation. The effigy is rendered in low relief characteristic of the period's mint output, with the emperor's features depicted with a strong jaw and broad neck. The obverse legend DIV N VALENS P F AVG runs along the periphery, broken across the field on either side of the bust. |
