(Translation: Our lord Theodosius, pious and blessed emperor.)
Reverse description Standing imperial figure of Theodosius I, facing right in military dress, grasping a legionary standard surmounted by a chi-rho or cross finial in his right hand and holding a Victory-bearing globe in his left; his left foot rests upon a seated captive who turns his gaze upward in supplication. A christogram or Latin cross occupies the left field. The exergue contains the mint signature and officina letter identifying the Constantinople mint. The reverse legend is distributed across the upper field in two lines.
