| Obverse description | Pearl-diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Theodosius I facing right, rendered in a late Roman imperial style with fine engraving of the diadem beads and paludamentum folds. The effigy occupies the central field with strong relief typical of Alexandrian mint production. The encircling Latin legend reads D N THEODO-SIVS P F AVG, identifying the emperor by name with the titles Pius Felix Augustus. |

| Reverse description | The emperor stands in three-quarter view facing right, clad in military attire, his left foot placed upon a seated captive, symbolizing Roman dominion over barbarian adversaries. In his right hand he holds a military standard (vexillum) and in his left a globus, emblems of imperial power and universal rule. The composition conveys the VIRTVS EXERCITI — the valor of the army — a common late Roman reverse type celebrating military virtue. The mintmark and officina letter appear in the exergue, identifying this piece as struck at Alexandria. The reverse legend VIRTVS E-XERCITI is divided across the field. |
