Obverse description Diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Theodosius I facing right, portrayed in the imperial military manner characteristic of the late Roman period. The pearl diadem is visible encircling the brow, and the paludamentum is fastened at the shoulder over the cuirass. The surrounding Latin legend reads DN THEODOSIVS PF AVG, identifying the emperor as Dominus Noster Theodosius, Pius Felix Augustus.

Reverse description Victory advancing left, holding a trophy over her right shoulder and dragging a captive with her left hand; a Christogram (☧) appears in the left field, serving as a Christian symbol consistent with Theodosian religious policy. The encircling Latin legend SALVS REIPVBLICAE proclaims the health and salvation of the Roman state, a common reverse type of the late fourth-century AE coinage.
