Obverse description Laureate and cuirassed bust of Maxentius facing right, draped over the left shoulder, with finely detailed hair and a strongly modelled profile. The emperor wears elaborately decorated military armour visible at the shoulder and chest. The encircling Latin legend reads IMP C MAXENTIVS P F AVG CONS II, separated by a small cross, running clockwise within a beaded border. The portrait exhibits the bold, slightly idealised style characteristic of the Tetrarchic period.
