| Obverse description | Pearl-diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Marcian facing right. The imperial effigy is rendered in the late antique style characteristic of fifth-century Eastern Roman coinage, with the pearl diadem clearly indicated along the brow. The encircling Latin legend reads D N MARCIANVS P F AVG, identifying the emperor with his full titulature. The flan is small and irregular, consistent with the debased nummus denomination of this period. |
