Additional information

Licinius II was elevated to Caesar at age two in 317, a purely dynastic maneuver by his father Licinius I to counter Constantine's own appointment of Crispus. These coins were struck during the final years of an increasingly unstable co-rule, as the two Augusti moved toward the open conflict that would erupt at the Battle of Chrysopolis in 324. Antioch was firmly in Licinian territory throughout this period, and production here ceased abruptly when Constantine's victory extinguished the eastern court entirely — Licinius I executed, Licinius II demoted and later killed.
