Obverse description Frontal bust in the Byzantine imperial tradition, depicted wearing a crown surmounted by a cross patée; the effigy is rendered in a schematic, provincial style characteristic of early Arab-Byzantine coinage. A cross appears in the upper field above the crown. A Sasanian-derived Pahlavi legend runs around the periphery of the bust within a beaded border. The overall composition closely imitates late Byzantine follis iconography while incorporating Umayyad transitional elements.
