| Obverse description | Laureate and cuirassed bust of Diocletian facing right, rendered in high relief in the late Roman imperial style. The emperor wears a radiate or laureate crown and military dress, with paludamentum draped over the left shoulder, befitting his senior Augustan rank. The encircling legend reads D N DIOCLETIANO P F S AVG, designating him as Our Lord Diocletian, Pious, Happy, Senior Augustus. The coin's flan is irregular and shows typical characteristics of the London mint's production during the post-abdication commemorative issues of AD 307. A beaded border frames the design. |
