Reverse description A tall military standard inscribed VOT / XX occupies the centre of the field, its shaft rising from a base and topped with a decorated tablet panel, symbolising the vow for the twentieth anniversary of reign. Flanking the standard on either side are two captive barbarians seated on the ground in postures of submission, their heads turned inward toward the standard. The reverse legend VIRTVS EXERCIT runs around the field, while the mintmark PLN appears in the exergue, identifying the London mint. The composition conveys Roman military supremacy and imperial legitimacy.
