| Additional information |
The ALAMANNIA DEVICTA type commemorates Crispus's victories over Alamannic raiders along the Rhine frontier, campaigns that burnished his reputation as a military commander of genuine ability — arguably more capable than his father Constantine I ever publicly acknowledged. Sirmium was one of the more active mints of the Tetrarchic and Constantinian periods, positioned to supply the Danubian armies. Within a year of this issue, Crispus would be executed on Constantine's orders at Pola, his name subjected to damnatio memoriae, making coins bearing his image among the more historically charged survivals of the period.
