| Obverse description | Radiate effigy of Constantius II facing right, rendered as a laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust in the conventional late Roman imperial style. The portrait displays the characteristic youthful features associated with Constantius II as Caesar, with paludamentum visible at the shoulder. The circumferential Latin legend reads FL IVL CONSTANTIVS NOB C, identifying him as Flavius Iulius Constantius, most noble Caesar. The flan shows some irregularity and surface patination typical of bronze nummi struck at the Arelate mint during this period. The obverse die work reflects the competent but standardised engraving style characteristic of the Constantinian workshop output. |
