The FEL TEMP REPARATIO coinage was launched in 348 AD to mark the 1100th anniversary of Rome's founding — an enormous propaganda initiative that flooded the empire's mints simultaneously. Alexandria was among the most productive eastern mints in this series, and the volume it turned out reflects both the city's established infrastructure and the regime's determination to push the message deep into Egypt and the eastern provinces.
RIC VIII 55 belongs to the "fallen horseman" issue, the most widely produced of the FEL TEMP reverse types. The sheer numbers struck meant dies wore quickly and were replaced frequently, producing considerable die variety across the Alexandria output.
