Obverse description Laureate and cuirassed bust of Constantine I facing right, with the imperial mantle visible at the shoulder. The effigy displays the characteristic strong-jawed portrait style of the Constantinian period, with a prominent brow and stylized drapery folds rendered in the late Roman manner. The circumferential Latin legend IMP CONSTANTINVS P F AVG runs clockwise around the bust, separated from the field by a beaded border. The overall treatment reflects the workshop conventions of the Arelate mint in the early fourth century.
