Obverse description Laureate and helmeted bust of the personification Constantinopolis facing left, draped in imperial mantle, with a reversed spear held over the shoulder serving as a sceptre. The effigy is rendered in the stylized late Roman manner typical of Constantinian-era bronzes, with bold facial features and a Corinthian-style helmet. The encircling legend CONSTANTINOPOLIS identifies the commemorative city type introduced to celebrate the dedication of the new eastern capital in AD 330.
