Reverse description The reverse bears a two-line inscription in large Latin capital letters reading NOVE / REIS across the central field, denoting the denomination of nine réis. The lettering is bold and occupies the majority of the flan, with a radiating or granular border running along the periphery. The die work is characteristically rough and irregular, consistent with the hand-struck copper coinage produced at the Goa mint during the reign of João VI. No additional devices or mint marks are present in the field.
