Reverse description Phalanthos, the legendary Spartan founder of Tarentum, seated astride a dolphin leaping to the left; he holds a rhyton in his right hand and grasps a trident in his left, attributes emblematic of his divine connection to Poseidon and the sea. To the right in the field stands an ear of grain on a leafed stalk, a symbol of the city's agricultural prosperity. The city ethnic ΤΑΡΑΣ is distributed in the field. The composition adheres to the canonical Tarentine reverse type established throughout the Nomos coinage.
