| Obverse description | Nude youth riding a horse prancing to the right, crowning the horse with a wreath held in his right hand; a small winged Nike figure flies toward the rider from the upper left, extending a wreath. The magistrate's signature ΑΡΙΣΤΟΚΡΑΤΗΣ is inscribed in two lines in the lower field, with the control mark ΠΙ visible to the right of the horse. The composition is rendered in the high-relief sculptural style characteristic of late Tarentine coinage, with fine detail in the musculature of the horse and the drapery of the rider. |
