Reverse description Ear of barley with eight grains rendered entirely in incuse relief, mirroring the obverse design as was standard in the Pythagorean incuse coinage tradition of Magna Graecia. The ear occupies the full field of the flan, with the stalk at the base and the grain head rising prominently toward the upper field. The surface within the incuse impression retains a slightly granular texture. The design is enclosed by a rayed or striated border encircling the entire reverse, a hallmark of the early Metapontine series.
