| Obverse description | Facing right, the bust of Demeter rendered in fine archaic Greek style, wearing a plain fillet binding her hair, a pendant earring, and a single-strand necklace with hanging pendant. A branch and an ivy leaf are disposed around the head in the field, serving as subsidiary decorative elements. Immediately below the chin appears the letter B, and beneath the neck truncation is incised a bipennis (double-headed axe), functioning as die-control marks. The portraiture reflects the refined late Classical engraving tradition of Magna Graecia. |
