Obverse description Facing head of Demeter or Leukippos rendered in fine late Classical style, depicted three-quarter face turned slightly to the left, crowned with a wreath of grain ears over long wavy hair that falls in thick locks onto the shoulders. The features are modelled with considerable plastic skill, exhibiting large almond-shaped eyes, a straight nose, and slightly parted lips. A small monogram or magistrate's symbol appears at the lower right of the field. The absence of a surrounding legend on this face is consistent with the iconographic conventions of Metapontine coinage of this period.
