Obverse description Nude warrior on horseback galloping to right, wearing a Corinthian helmet; the rider thrusts a spear with his raised right hand while his left hand grasps the reins together with two additional spears; a round shield is slung across his back. The magistrate's monogram ΕΥ appears in the left field, while the engraver's signature ΦΙΝΤΥΛΟΣ is inscribed in the exergue below the horse. The composition is dynamic and finely rendered in the late Classical tradition of Tarentine coinage.

Reverse description The city's eponymous founder Phalanthos is depicted riding a dolphin to the left in the characteristic Tarentine iconographic tradition; he extends his right hand forward bearing a Nike figure and holds a trident in his left hand. The legend ΤΑΡΑΣ appears to the left, identifying the city, while the magistrate's name ΠΟΛΥ is inscribed beneath his right arm. A galley prow pointing to the left appears in the lower field beneath the dolphin, serving as an additional symbol of Tarentum's maritime power.
