Obverse description The eponymous hero Taras depicted nude, seated right astride a dolphin swimming right, brandishing a trident in his raised right hand. The retrograde ethnic legend TAPAΣ appears in the left field. The figure is rendered in the vigorous Early Classical style characteristic of Tarentine coinage of this period, with bold and naturalistic musculature.
