Obverse description Head of Demeter (or Kore) facing right, her hair elaborately bound with a double fillet crossing over the crown of her head in the characteristic Metapontine style. The facial features are rendered with refined archaic-classical workmanship, and the hair is dressed in a formal arrangement framing the face. The effigy is set within a plain, slightly irregular round flan typical of South Italian Greek coinage of this period.
