Obverse description Schematically rendered head of a seal (phoke) in left profile, depicted in low relief against a plain electrum field. The design is boldly convex and rendered in the archaic style characteristic of early Phokaian coinage, with the eye of the animal prominently indicated as a raised globule surrounded by incised lines suggesting the creature's facial contour. The surface shows the characteristic striated texture of the hammered flan.
