Reverse description A deeply struck quadripartite incuse square filling the reverse field, divided by a raised cross-bar into four recessed compartments of unequal depth, characteristic of the punch-die technique employed in early Greek electrum coinage. The incuse impression is sharply defined with slightly irregular boundaries, consistent with hand-hammered production. No legend or additional device is present.

Additional information

Kyzikos was among the most prolific issuers of electrum coinage in the ancient Greek world, and its hekte series — along with fractional denominations like this myshemihekte — circulated widely across the Black Sea trade network well beyond the city's own reach. The natural electrum used by Kyzikene mints contained varying gold-to-silver ratios, and the city apparently made no effort to standardize alloy content across issues, relying instead on weight as the guarantor of value.

Von Fritze's classification of this type remained the standard reference for over a century before SNG France provided additional die comparanda.
