Obverse description Central field displays the toponym PERVGIA in two lines, with the date 1797 below, all within a raised inner circle. The surrounding legend reads PIVS SEXTUS P M A XXIII, referencing Pope Pius VI and his pontifical year XXIII, separated by small star ornaments. The entire design is enclosed by a finely milled border. The inscription is rendered in bold Roman capitals characteristic of late 18th-century Papal States coinage. No papal portrait is present; the design is entirely typographic.
