Of Romanesque structure, its facade and its vault were rebuilt in the Gothic period, while keeping its two Romanesque bell towers. In 1100, the Abbey of Cluny had 800 `subsidiaries` and `branches` throughout Christendom. Among them were five major priories also known as `Daughters of Cluny`. The priory of Souvigny is one of them.
