Obverse description | Three half-timbered houses from Le Vieux Mans in the upper section and a detail of the masonry of the Gallo-Roman wall in the lower section. This wall, dating from the late 3rd century, has a double facing composed on both sides of small-scale masonry in regular courses, with alternating courses of rubble and rows of bricks. The builders played on the color of the rubble to create a certain polychromy in the purely geometric decoration: lozenges, triangles, pointed circles, chevrons and Xs. |
