The mini-medal represents the work Dada Stainless by artist Subodh Gupta which was designed between 2010 and 2013. It is a surreal banyan tree made of a stainless steel trunk and roots, its foliage and fruits are in the form of various sized utensils, also made of stainless steel. `Dada` means `Grandfather` in Hindi. It symbolizes Indian heritage and family ties. According to the artist, `The tree and its title `Dada`, the Hindi word for grandfather, the patriarch under whom the protection of a family thrives and one sees his own reflection. `Dada` is also an obvious nod to Dadaism. An outstanding visual artist, Gupta plays with matter and form. Through skilful processes, he assembles and reinvents everyday objects, finding his inspiration in surrealism.
