Representation of the staircase at the castle of Chambord, French commune of the department of Loir-et-Cher, region Centre-Val-de- Loire. It comprises two flights of stairs following a double helix pattern, in the manner of the two entwined trunks which represent the tree of life in the Middle Ages. Two people who take each a flight of stairs can see each other through the openings, but can not meet.
