Additional information

Azad Khan Afghan seized Tabriz in 1756 after a period of near-continuous factional warfare that left northwestern Iran politically fragmented following Nader Shah's assassination three years earlier. His coinage from Tabriz is exceptionally short-lived — his hold on the city lasted only until Karim Khan Zand pushed him out, making any gold struck in his name there a product of months rather than years of control.
