Reverse description The reverse displays a compact, centrally placed cartouche containing the mint name in Nasta'liq Arabic script, struck in bold relief against a plain, flat field. The inscription identifies the place of issue as Mashhad Muqaddas (the Holy Mashhad), the principal mint of Khorasan under the Afsharid rulers. The cartouche is rendered in a characteristic lobed or cloud-like border form, consistent with Afsharid mint-mark conventions. The surrounding field is largely bare, reflecting the hammered flan technique and the relatively small size of the die relative to the coin's planchet.
