Obverse description Diademed and veiled portrait bust of the deified Queen Arsinoe II facing right, her head adorned with a stephane ornamented with a radiate diadem. A lotus-tipped sceptre rises over her far shoulder, the shaft at times entwined with a coiled serpent, symbolising her divine status. The effigy is rendered in refined Hellenistic style, with carefully modelled facial features conveying both regal authority and idealized beauty. The portrait is set within a broad, plain field with no legend on the obverse, the entire design conveying the posthumous cult veneration accorded to the queen.
