| Obverse description | Central field depicts the Virgin Mary seated, nimbed and draped, cradling the Christ Child in her arms; both figures rendered in a late Gothic style within a beaded inner circle. The Virgin's flowing robes and the Child's posture are modelled with modest relief typical of mid-sixteenth-century ecclesiastical token production. A circular legend in uncial Latin characters reads + SALVE ❀ REGINA ❀ MISERIC, invoking the Marian antiphon 'Salve Regina Misericordiae', separated by floral or rosette ornaments. |
