Obverse description Equestrian effigy of Charlemagne (Karl der Grosse) in high relief, depicted in imperial robes and crown, facing right on a stepping horse. An oval Meissen crossed-swords mark appears in the lower field beneath the horse. The circular legend runs along the rim, with dates 742-814 flanking the lower field, and a gilt thread border encircles the edge.
