Obverse description Central view of the Dormition Cathedral (Uspensky Sobor) of the Moscow Kremlin in high relief, depicted with its characteristic five golden domes surmounted by crosses. The date 1883 appears in the exergue below the cathedral, and a decorative laurel branch frames the lower border. A Cyrillic Church Slavic legend curves around the upper and lateral border of the oval field.

(Translation: Lay on his head a crown with precious stones)
Reverse description Depiction of the Virgin Mary (Theotokos) enthroned and holding the Christ Child on her left arm, rendered in the style of a Russian Orthodox icon in high relief within the oval field. The Virgin wears an ornate crown and richly jewelled robes; the Christ Child is similarly adorned. Abbreviated Cyrillic inscriptions identifying the figures appear in the four corners of the field: MP / ΘY on the left and ΙС / ХС on the right. A beaded border frames the entire composition.
