On December 10, 1672 Gov-
ernor Francis Lovelace of New
York announced a monthly mail ser-
vice between New York City and Bos-
ton. This was the first scheduled mail
route in the United States, and became
known as the Boston Post Road. Mail
routes such as this played an important
role in America as they were the essen-
tial link between our colonies providing
a dependable means of communication.
